English Language Learner Instructor

PART-TIME ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) WORKSITE INSTRUCTOR

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
If you like teaching, you will love teaching adults to learn a new language. You are not only teaching a language but a life changing skill that will enhance the life of every person involved. We are looking for committed instructors to complement our qualified workforce of educators. It is fundamental to provide knowledge and instruction to students to increase their personal and work skills. The ideal candidate should be passionate about adult education and able to reach out to employees and create a relationship of mutual trust. He/she should know how to organize, plan, and lead a class to make learning a fun and meaningful process. The goal is to increase their language skills for a better quality of life at work and in the community.
 
This position requires an energetic and dedicated individual with a bachelor’s degree or 1 – 2 years of training experience who is committed to helping adults with career goals as defined by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD). Instructors will assess, instruct, and retain employee/student to help them become proficient in English. 
 
In addition to instructing, instructors will:
  • Establish a rapport with employees and the employer.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee/student and program information
  • Evaluate and provide individualized instruction through interactive learning to increase the knowledge of the language including writing, spelling, pronunciation, reading, and everyday language used at worksites and in the community. 
  • Learn the data management system (SIS) to record attendance, and work with LARA’s Data Specialist and Director of Instruction for training and monitor program performance.
  • Integrate employer’s vocabulary into lesson plans for improved worksite communication. 
  • Attend training and meetings at LARA to continuously improve outcomes.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required, educator license or degree preferred.
  • Experience working with a diverse adult classroom preferred.
  • Positive, optimistic outlook to help employees/students overcome barriers.
